Paycheque album out now
It's here. Paycheque's debut album is out now!
"Romantic, nocturnal, synth pop for modern times." (the band's own words)
Paycheque are Allison Goldfarb and Jackson MacIntosh (TOPS, Drugdealer), who met on the patio of LA's Zebulon weeks before lockdown and bonded over sophisti-pop.
Their debut wears its 80s influences on its sleeve: gated drums, clean guitars, vintage synths in the lineage of Depeche Mode and Pet Shop Boys, but under the gloss it's a record about present-day Los Angeles: impermanence, fire and ICE, the superficiality that trails ambition. It was written in a home studio as the Santa Ana winds tore the roof off the stables in their backyard (the house has since been marked for demolition) and it unfolds cinematically, scene by scene, all worldly skepticism and cautious romance. Glossy and almost impossibly catchy, pop music of the wage, not the salary.

Last November innerinnerlife released his EP IfOnly. Now comes the follow-up single, crush*
crush* sits in innerinnerlife's favourite spot: that vague zone between digital and analogue. The single pulls focus away from atmosphere and lo-fi toward something more vulnerable and honest, a song about springtime and all its promises. For all the drama in the lyrics, it lands on a tired après-winter euphoria, when the biggest crush is life itself.
